Groom

Regular grooming is an important part of caring for poodle mixes.  After getting complaints from a groomer about how hard it was to groom two of our boys we became big proponents of grooming them. 

Our dogs are active and spend time outside, plus each coats is different.  If we let things go, they will become matted;. There are certain products we find we keep returning too to help in our grooming quests so we have provided some information here and you can find more details by checking out the link at our affiliate, Amazon.

Over the years we have tried about 5 different brands of clippers and we keep coming back to Andis. However, I recommend a cooling spray or extra blades because these still do get very hot after being used awhile. I like that they are quieter and this unit has a longer cord which makes reaching the underside of the cockapoos easier. 

HyLyt Shampoo for Pets This soap-free shampoo is hypoallergenic which makes it a good choice, It also contains natural moisturizing ingredients for maintaining skin hydration this helps control flaking.


We shampoo then condition our dogs. 

We use Avo'Derm conditioner to help our dogs have a moisturized, clean, coat. We find that the natural botanicals help with the dryness, tangles and adds fullness to their coats. I also like that this is a thicker product.

Made with avocado and olive oil Burt's Bees leave in conditioner is a Vet recommended formula. It's pH balanced for dogs, colorant free, sulfate free, cruelty-free, and made with no added fragrances. We spray directly on their coat as it's beneficial for irritated skin and hot spots. 

A product we often use after they're done swimming or bathing is Vet's Best Dry Dog Ear Relief. It keeps our cockapoos ears fresh and dry and helps soothe raw, irritated, or greasy ears. It provides itch relief and is alcohol-free. This stinging-free liquid turns from cream to a soft powder when dry. So, you need to make sure to secure the cap tightly to keep it from drying out.

We use a medicated Shampoo on Bindi at times because she has allergies and tends to pull at her coat. 

Paw Brothers Extra Long Hard Pin Slicker Brush. We've tried many slicker brushes before and for our boy's coat, this is at the top. It helps provide a velvety soft texture.

Safari Dematting Comb This product has frequently helped get out those stubborn mats that form on the hind legs.
