We waited a whole year for this moment.
When Coco came into our lives, we knew that one day we wanted to take her to the dog park. But being the youngest of our three girls, we decided to give her plenty of time to grow, learn, and become comfortable with the world around her. So we waited.
And then, finally, Coco was ready for her first trip to the dog park.
There was something special about watching her step through the gate for the very first time. She had so much to see and smell, and you could almost see the excitement on her face as she explored this new place.
We had imagined her meeting all sorts of new dogs and making new friends. But when we arrived, the park was completely empty.
Well, almost empty.
Coco had brought her two favorite friends with her — Bindi and Lily.
And honestly, that turned out to be just fine.
The three girls explored the park together, with Coco happily following along. But one thing quickly became clear: Coco had discovered that the dog park was a wonderful place to play fetch!
She absolutely loved chasing after a tennis ball. And unlike some dogs who happily run after the ball but have no interest in giving it back, Coco was a natural. She would race after it, pick it up, and proudly bring it right back to us, ready for another throw.
Again and again, she played, her little tail wagging as she ran. It was almost as if she were saying, “Throw it again! I’ll get it!”
Even without any other dogs at the park, Coco didn't seem disappointed. She had plenty of room to run, a tennis ball to chase, and, most importantly, Bindi and Lily right there beside her.
There was something especially sweet about seeing the three of them together. Bindi and Lily have been part of Coco's world from the beginning, and they have their own little way of understanding one another. Coco didn't need a crowd of unfamiliar dogs to have a good time.
Her first dog park adventure may not have turned out exactly the way we imagined it would, but perhaps that made it even more special.
Sometimes the best adventures aren't about where you go or who you meet. Sometimes they're simply about being together.
And for Coco, her first trip to the dog park was exactly that — a new adventure shared with Bindi and Lily, with a tennis ball in her mouth and a whole lot of happiness in her heart.
After waiting a whole year, we couldn't have asked for a sweeter first visit.
